Coloured stones of the Spanish gift tiara Archived Message

Yes, it was discussed several times the story of the nuns that had sold the real stones in the tiara, and they had some paste mounted in the tiara. In the only reference book on Belgium RF's jewels, by Christophe Vachaudez, the author speaks about this. What I cannot really believe is that the Spanish government bought this tiara, I think in an auction and as far as I know, at auctions the jewels are examined by experts, especially before presenting as a gift to a Queen. How come that it was only afterwards that it was discovered, and apparently a new set of stones was provided to Queen Fabiola? And again, if the stones are now real emeralds and real rubies, how come that they still look fake, except the aquamarines? A big mystery.
