If you want to insist on calling it the Borneo bracelet, by all means Henri but as mentioned many times on this board and in publications it was a ' national' gift from the people of the Netherlands Indies, hence the crest and garudas. The original bracelet contained more than 1700 brilliant cut diamonds and 34 emerald cut diamonds set in platinum. The South African diamonds were from Asscher (Amsterdam) and jeweller Bouman (The Hague) was responsible for the execution of the design by W. Rohrig. It is mentioned Prinses Juliana had been consulted about the design! So no surprises there. The bracelet was not even made in the former colony...... If you have any doubts: Newspaper article Sumatra Post 1936 That leaves us with Borneo: The Sultan of Kutai (one of the sultanates on Borneo) offered Queen Wilhelmina in 1898 a yelow gold and diamond crown. These diamonds have a distinct Banjarmasin (Borneo) cut and were found on the island of Borneo. The ornaments now serve as brooches, pendants, earrings and a bracelet was made from the remaining band. The Queen has worn the ornaments twice during this visit to Brunei and that was indeed a nice reference........ to Borneo! --Previous Message-- : By my understanding it is called the Borneo : Bracelet, maybe because there are diamonds : from that island in the bracelet? :
