For Dutch Royal Jewels: a dull year ahead! Archived Message

I don't want to put anyone down but I think in terms of glitter (and I realy mean fullblown stately glitter of Tiaras and parures) this will probarbly be a very dull year in Holland! I remember very well 1980 and (besides the Statevisit of the Spanish King that year), Juliana and Beatrix both were busy in the months running up to the inauguration with the internal affairs surrounding it. No glittering events at all. When the actual date of the Inauguration was there, the only one to wear a (modest) tiara was the new Queen! And the other (female) members of the family wore "prinsjesdag-style" outfits with hats, a nice broche here and there that was all... The ceremony was solemn and done in a very tasteful dignified way, the Queen looked sweet in her white dress and the ermine robes but one could hardly say: glittering and none of the foreign royal guests glittered at all. In the evening there was a black-tie/no decorations maritime event with fireworks. The Queen did not wear a tiara that evening nor did any of the other female guests. There were no other royal celebrations, no ball's, no operavisits, not anything! Most Scandinavian round Royal birthdays are done with much more pomp than a Dutch Inauguration... That year (1980) the new Queen was busy with visiting all provincies of the country and the carribean parts of the Kingdom. No tiaras were seen for over more than one year, when at last she made her first state-visit. The first State-Visit into our country was only after three more years! That's why I predict a (jewelerywise) very dull year for The Netherlands. Nevertheless I suspect the Inauguration will give us some pomp and circumstance (but not in the jewelery department elas). I even heared they were tossing with the idea to have the Golden Carriage make a tour through Amsterdam... So maybe they will try to give it bit more splendour this time.
