THE PRINCE AND THE EMPRESS - 'Sissi's Blue Dreams' Swarovski, a prince, and memories of an empress are adding sparkle to a grand ball tradition. Jewelry designer Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, who first demonstrated his flair for creating fabulous diadems in 2012, is responsible for the design of this year’s tiaras. His latest piece was inspired by Austrian high nobility: “I have always loved Winterhalter’s portrait of Empress Elisabeth with diamond stars in her hair. I went one step further in the design for my latest piece. My thought was that if Sisi were around today, the stars she would dream of would probably be blue.” Sparkling blue crystals will therefore reflect the light of what is probably the most beautiful ballroom in the world, proving once more that Swarovski crystal is just as important a part of the Vienna Opera Ball as the waltz. I don't care for the star-design in the first picture very much (reminds me of a beatuy pageant) but seeing the tiara today at the grand opening (of our state ball) changed my mind to some extent. I looks wonderful on dark haired ladies - pity they didn't change the colour of the velvet at the base.
