--Previous Message-- : Maybe a fullblown restoration of the piece has : transformed it. : When properly cleaned and maybe even : resetting some of the stones it would : probarbly look different already. : All the photo's that we have seen of it are : from pre-digital times and discoloured to : say the least. : It hasn't been seen since 1972 for crying : out loud: that's rather a long period of : time... : : Allthough I adored both Juliana and Beatrix : in their roles as Queen, they weren't realy : inspiring beauties ofcourse. : Their hairstyle was dowdy to say the : least... : : It could very well be that Maxima knocks us : all out when wearing that same Tiara. : : The design in itself is not thàt different : from the Ornate Pearl Tiara that Beatrix : wore on her wedding and that most : jewelery-watchers seem to love... :
I think Beatrix was indeed quite a pretty lady in her younger years and has remains an attractive lady for her age. And is certainly MUCH prettier than her mother, grandmother and great grandmother respectively.
As for the tiara, I don't think it matters how much a tiara glistens; If it's an unpleasing design it's an unpleasing design. I have no doubt that when it glistened it was quite a sight, but that has more to do with the diamonds themselves and not the structural composition.
It lacked any sense of femininity because it is/was a robust parure. A very grand and imposing parure, but one that would be difficult to suit any prospective wearer in it's known state.
