Most older ladies (catholics) I know wear gold strings with gold crosses hanging from them. I have a similar silver set that I like to wear sometimes. I find it very discret and elegant. Some ladies wear medallions with photos of loved ones, mostly already departed, or a saint they are particullary devoted to. A recent event comes to my mind: an older lady friend of my family was recently assaulted in broad daylight when she was walking on a city street. The burgler ripped off her gold string from her neck. The lady was devastated, not because of the value of the gold string, but because she had a gold cross hanging from it, that had been a gift from her late only son... Eventually the cross fell on the street floor and was later recovered. My lady friend considered itīs recovery almost a miracle. --Previous Message-- : In the case of Orthodox ladies, probably an : icon worn close to the heart. For Catholic : ladies ... a scapular?
