I believe there was nothing "We Belgians" in this, actually.
The company Société Générale ordered this diadem at the jeweller Coosemans as a gift to Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Belgium for her wedding to Hereditary Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg.
The other "Belgian gift" (the Congo collier) was also not for sure a public gift. The one says it was a gift of Léopold III to his daughter, made of Congo diamonds indeed. The other says, it was a gift from the colony, but then it is strange that "the Motherland" gave nothing.
