    [snip]

: - the central element on Cery's pic is
: definitely not the 'original one'. It looks
: like a substantial diamond(?) cluster, a big
: central stone, surrounded by 8(?) smaller
    : ones (big circle)

Thank you for pointing out the similarities, Barbara. I thought as well that the central element was no match, but now, after a closer look, I do think the old photograph might be misleading:

What appears to be a bigger diamond just under the central cluster in the photo could very well be a blurry image of the flat "v"-shaped element on the Devonshire tiara (in the photo it certainly looks more oblong than round to me). On each side of the central cluster there seem to be three quite substantial diamonds, which would match the central element of the tiara in Martina's pic. The spiky part is not visible in the photo, but then it shows against a very bright background, unlike the other spiky element which is visible because of the duchess' dark hair.

Sure, there might exist many additional elements for this tiara, but why swap the impressive central element which matches the other four for a similar impressive element which doesn't? I think it's more likely that it's the tiara on Martina's pic with 4 or 6 additional elements set between the spiky parts and the central spike just doesn't show well on the photo.
