I agree. It takes a lot to buy and sell that piece! It makes me happy to understand the process. I also love the versatility of the tiara! Wonderful!

: the retail and 'cost' price of anything rarely
: marries up though does it. Consider the
: retailer who buys that tiara at auction, on
: top of the auction price there'll be tax,
: and auction house premiums. Consider too the
: investment of the retailer to hold something
: so valuable in stock, how quickly would a
: piece like this sell, are there buyers
: expressing interest already, how many tiara
: events are there for ladies these days, let
: alone Royal ladies... the insurance for the
: piece, the maintenance and adjustments that
    : might be necessary.
    :
: The Jewellery industry has always worked to
: such a high mark up for all these reasons
: and more....staff, secure premises, vaults,
: before even considering the additional
: investment on the part of the house to buy
: in such items. So I think you'll find the
: difference between auction price, and retail
: fairly consistent with other boutiques and
    : Jewellery stores.

: Has anyone seen this tiara before? It would
    : make a great addition to a princess's
    : collection.
    :
: I found the orginal auction price and now
    : the new retail price.....nice mark-up!
