Interesting. The picture is well known but I must say I never zoomed in to check the brooch/corsage. The first thing that strikes me is that when I compare the two the 'devant de corsage' and the known (large) brooch are not that different in size which makes it remarkable to have two such pieces in one parure. Typically the brooch is much smaller. The current brooch is as said rather large. Perhaps the brooch is/was convertible: the nine prongs of the aigrette do match with the 'devant de corsage' in the picture posted and we know the neclace was convertable and the diamond and ruby clusters removable. On the other hand there seems to be a large time gap between Wilhelmina wearing the devant de corsage and Irene wearing the brooch so an alteration could have been done. Wilhelmina was never pictured with the brooch as far as I know. I would like to know if a picture exists of someone wearing both pieces. --Previous Message-- : --Previous Message-- : To me it looks like a combination of the : brooch and the center part of the necklace. : : But the centre part of the necklace has only : five prongs with rubies on top. The lower : part of the devant de corsage on the photo : looks like the aigrette upside down, but I'm : not sure if the upper part is indeed the : brooch. Looks somehow too symmetrical. :
