Indeed confusing... I mentioned it as Cartier having as source the portuguese royal jewels book caption on the same picture that names it that way, since they say in the text that is highly probable he is the jeweler who made the piece. The book mentions a degree of uncertainty in some pieces, also because it was customary to have pieces bought at diferent jewelers and sometimes kept them in Leitão & Irmãos jewel boxes... when lacking purchase invoices this would certainly add to the confusion on what jeweler made what .
We have no info on it being property of the royal house or not, but again I had no idea that the Por Bem brooch existed until I read it on that book! I really think there's probably some heirlooms in the vaults for decades we have no idea about, so, who knows...

It is also mentioned at same point in the book that the Queen on her last days was visited by her former daughter in law Augusta Viktória and that she gave her some jewel (unknown). If I am not mystaken I also remember a reference to a possible theft of some jewels (not confirmed or specified)... the fate of the portuguese jewels seems to be like a mystery over another mystery...

: Thanks for your post and for those pictures
: (your archive is impressive). There is no
: certain that the collier is a cartier piece,
: although is highly probable it is.
: It's destiny is a bit complicated to guess.
: First there is no reference that the piece
: is property of the Royal House but that
    : doesn't mean it isn't.
: In second that piece was bought by D.Amelia
: herself when she was Duchess of Braganza so
: it was bought hypothetically with portuguese
: money. If so, it should have gone to the
    : Duke.
: Third: But if it was Cartier, it means that
: it had not portuguese origin so it should
: have gone to Her french relatives. Quite
    : confusing.
