A fabulous and unique tiara.
I never understood how Princess Marie Louise would end up with this massive tiara (including large diamonds). Her husband (Duke Aribert) came from Anhalt, a small German Duchy, and I cannot imagine his family bought this huge tiara. (I have never seen other grand Anhalt jewels).
If the dates on the plate posted by Nellie are correct, it may have been made after 1906, when the Princess was no longer married to the Duke (the marriage was annulled in 1900). It is not the kind of gift she is likely to have received from her Schleswig Holstein relatives for an anniversary (they did not have such tiaras themselves). Might she have bought this tiara for herself? Did she even have the funds to buy such a tiara? So many questions...
