Queen Astrid had several emerald pieces. Her husband's second wife did wear most of them. The emerald earrings and the bracelet/choker went to Astrid's daughter Josephine-Charlotte. The emerald necklace/tiara has not been seen since it was worn by princess Lilian in the 1950's. As it was not part of the jewels she left and it was not sold the most likely scenario is that Leopold III gave it to his oldest son Boudewijn when he married Fabiola. She did not wear it, but as written before that could have been the result of the difficult relation with Lilian. Leopold III inherited a number of jewels from his mother and his first wife. He bought a few others for Lilian. The bigger jewels she owned she sold. The smaller and more practical pieces she kept and were sold by her children. That left a number of the bigger pieces she did wear. The theory is that she did not own them and that Leopold III and Queen Elisabeth left them to Boudewijn and possibly Albert. --Previous Message-- : I think I don't understand your post. : : Princess Joséphine-Charlotte wanted the : diamond-and-emerald choker which was a : present to her late mother Queen Astrid of : the Belgians. : : You say that it took weeks to the King (or : Princess Lilian) before they wanted to give : that jewel to Princess Joséphine-Charlotte. : : Then you are talking about Queen Fabiola : still having it. I miss something here? It : was given to Princess Joséphine-Charlotte or : not? :
