But what drove up the price? Not the very distant Oranje-Nassau or Anhalt provenance, or both... I think it is a pity these pieces end up God knows where. Perhaps it now adorns the neck of some oligarch/billionaire's wife, daughter or flavour of the month. That got me thinking. Is there any evidence of Middle Eastern Royals ever buying antique jewellery with noble or royal provenance or do they Always prefer the modern, fancy cut Jewels of the today?
