Re: Thanks Beth and Arthur Archived Message

I think that the regiment's museum people would be able to give a definitive answer as to whether HM visited the regiment in 1992 and if this is their badge.
I apologise for the delay in giving you my thoughts, Bryce. Unfortunately, I got distracted at the time and then forgot to post.

: You have been very diligent Beth and I think
: that you have solved this mystery.
    :
: Zooming in on Arthur's photo the two tiers
: of the Lancashire rose are clearly visible.
    :
: I have still not been able to track down any
: information on the Queen's itinerary during
: the Germany visit but I have seen
: collaboratory evidence of some final
: regimental events during that period.
    :
: Thanks again for your persistence. I can
: cross another "TBD" (to be
: determined) picture off my list.
    :
    : Cheers!

    : Hello Beth1,
    :
: first of all, and to help our fellow posters
: to follow the discussion, here is the link
: to Bryce's post you are mentioning:
    :
    :
    :
: I do not have specific information about
: this badge, but I think you might be on the
    : right track.
    :
: Indeed, in the Lancashire Infantry Museum's
: link which you have provided, the following
: passage has caught my attention:
    : "The 1st Battalion [of the Queen's
: Lancashire Regiment] served two tours of
: duty in West Germany in the mechanised
: infantry role (...). Following the collapse
: of the Berlin Wall and the disintegration of
: the Warsaw Pact, and as if to set an
: appropriate and fitting seal on this
: critical period of World history, the 1st
: Battalion was the last British battalion to
    : serve in Berlin 1992-94 ."
    :
: So that would make sense that Queen
: Elizabeth II, during her visit to Berlin in
: 1992, visited this regiment and honoured it
    : by wearing their badge.
    :
: I post here, for a better visual comparison,
: the badge of the Regiment (from the website
: whose link you have posted) and another pic
: of the Queen's visit to Berlin (the pic was
: posted on this board by Monica on April 4,
    : 2013):
    :
    :
    :
    :
: I think there is a match. Well done, Beth1!

: On 13 May you posted an image of QEII
    : wearing
: an unknown brooch/badge in Germany.
: The nearest I have been able to find is the
: badge of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.
    : See
    :
    :
: I realise it may not be this badge which the
: Queen was wearing, so I hope that someone,
: who knows more about badges, might provide
    : an opinion.
: Bryce, I tried to contact you by a Private
: Message but the system would not accept the
    : message.
