    Or if Albert and Paola had been nicer to uncle Charles. Instead he left it to his sister Marie-José and one of her daughters put it up for auction. Unfortunately the Belgian royals (not exactly short in cash) did not feel the need to acquire the three lots with Belgian roots:

    1 the Leuchtenberg tiara
    2 the pearl diadem of Stephanie de Beauharnais
    3 the turquoise set of the countess of Flanders

    Had they bought these pieces the Belgian Royal collection would have become more diverse and interesting. The Leuchtenberg tiara would have made a nice piece for the Duchess of Brabant once she turns 18. The Pearl diadem would have suited pearl lover Queen Paola and the turquoise set would have made a nice and colourful addition for Queen Mathilde to combine with the Empire tiara of queen Astrid. The set has a necklace/bandeau, earrings, two bracelets and a brooch.
