I agree, this would have been a nice and very wlcome addition to the Belgian Royal collection of jewels (which is not that large, when compared with other Royal Houses).

The managing of jewels is very disconcerting in the Belgian Royal Family. Inheritance seems to be a very tacky and sensitive issue in this family... I hope Queen Fabiola will bequeathe to the King her main jewels...

: Or if Albert and Paola had been nicer to uncle
: Charles. Instead he left it to his sister
: Marie-José and one of her daughters put it
: up for auction. Unfortunately the Belgian
: royals (not exactly short in cash) did not
: feel the need to acquire the three lots with
    : Belgian roots:
    :
    : 1 the Leuchtenberg tiara
: 2 the pearl diadem of Stephanie de
    : Beauharnais
: 3 the turquoise set of the countess of
    : Flanders
    :
: Had they bought these pieces the Belgian
: Royal collection would have become more
: diverse and interesting. The Leuchtenberg
: tiara would have made a nice piece for the
: Duchess of Brabant once she turns 18. The
: Pearl diadem would have suited pearl lover
: Queen Paola and the turquoise set would have
: made a nice and colourful addition for Queen
: Mathilde to combine with the Empire tiara of
: queen Astrid. The set has a
    : necklace/bandeau, earrings, two bracelets
    : and a brooch.

: I believe you are correct, Arthur. Here's
    : the
: lot information from the auction of the
    : piece at Christie's in 2007.
