I do agree that the upright Cullinan is not really a success!!!
--Previous Message-- : Thank you, Mauriz. Your suggestions are real : improvements. Something is currently lacking : at the top of the tiara. A mere collet : diamond, or a small rosette to fill this : "hole" would be perfet (not : something too big). : : Nellie, I do not think the Koh-I-Noor could : be adapted on this tiara, it would overwhelm : the delicate pattern of the tiara. Queen : Mary had once adapted the Cullinans III and : IV on the tiara, and in my view, it was not : a success... : : : : Personally, I prefer the altered version of : the tiara rather than the original one. The : removal of the top line of diamonds and the : more "open" aspect of the top of : the tiara give a more delicate look to the : tiara, whereas the original version looked : more "fence-like" to me. Just my : very own personal and subjective taste and : opinion, of course. : : : --Previous Message-- : : All samples are interesting. : The original was worn with a cap inside and : was unique in its own way and for the : particular purpose. : : : : --Previous Message-- : Yes, of course. Here are three versions : (with : a bit of cheating to fill a rather : unfortunate gap between the garlands and the : upside down upper element): : : : : : : : : I do like the impression that the two : garlands in the centre seem to start with : the diamonds inside the upper scrolls. And : the upside down scrolls look rather like a : closure of the design than the beginning of : a new tier. : : Still, I think I'm with Beth on this one. : The upper frame of the original design was : exactly that: a strong frame for an : otherwise rather busy structure of elements : which are all quite weak and not really : distinctive enough for a tiara of this size. : : : : : : :
