What a wonderful piece of history. Thank you for the photo Arthur. I am delighted to see such a historical item.

: Last Tuesday, 23rd September 2014, King Carl
: XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden
: visited Uppsala Cathedral, in connection
: with the General Synod of the (Lutheran)
: Church of Sweden. In the cathedral, they
: visited the exhibition ‘Heaven is here – Man

    :
    : There, they could admire a mercury-gilded
: copper crown with red, blue and green glass
: stones, which is probably the funeral crown
: of the Swedish King Eric IX, also known as
    : Saint Erik (c. 1155 – 1160), who is buried
: in the cathedral. The reason behind the name
: “funeral crown” is that it may have been
: made for the burial of Saint Erik in 1160.
: The crown is the oldest surviving regal
: crown in Sweden and the Nordic countries.
