    Thanks Sparkler and Gill.
I never would have guessed this to be the Sapphire Chrysanthemum! Just goes to show you what the angle and lighting can do.

The close-up shot you provided Gill is a nice one. It shows off the small leave which is usually lost against the background of the garment when worn.

Thanks again - another one off my list.
    Cheers!

: This brooch is a gift from the shipbuilders
: and owners when Princess Elizabeth
: launched the British Princess, an oil tanker
    : in 1946. It is a "platinum-set
: chrysanthemum brooch with sapphire stamens
: and diamond petals and stem." This
: description coming from Field, p.121. The
: picture I believe is from the Queen's
: Christmas broadcast given at Sandringham in
    : 1952.

: I came across this picture of HM in 1952.
: I was wondering if anyone can make out which
: brooch (if it is even a brooch) she might be
    : wearing.
    :
: If I had to hazard a guess, I would say it
: is one of the sapphire and gold floral clips
: (photographed at a weird angle) but, like I
    : said, only a guess.
    :
: Does anyone have any better insight?
