Imagine a hat starting with a wide brim all flat and standing out around the head of the hat. Press each side of the brim hard up against the sides of the head. You now have a bicorne. Add a button low on the side of the brim and another on the top of the head. Add a loop between the two buttons - to hold the brim up against the side of the head. One side is more elaborate than the other.
