    I was interested to see that the marquise diamond presented to QEQM in South Africa was presented in a setting.

    In a photo from the Times, which Nellie posted earlier this year, the setting around the diamond can be seen, but whether it was set as a ring at this time is unclear.

    The National Portrait Gallery in London has a photo where QEQM is wearing the same dress, tiara, necklace and earrings as in the photo Joye posted above. The portrait in the NPG is dated 15 December 1947, so it is possible that QEQM is wearing the diamond given to her in South Africa. Unfortunately, I do not have any way of judging if the stone in the ring is over 8 carats.
