Franck, I would be most grateful if you could tells us why you believe that the ring QEQM is wearing in the photo posted by Joye is the marquise diamond presented to QEQM during the South African tour in early 1947.
I am not trying to challenge your view - I can see a lot of reasons why you have come to that conclusion, but some elements of the ring (as per Joye's photo) make me wonder if it is the diamond presented in South Africa in 1947. For example: I fancy I can see a slightly darker stone in the centre and that this is surrounded by a border of small diamonds. I accept that it may also be simply an optical illusion.
Because of that, I would be interested in reading why you think it is the diamond presented in South Africa. I confess, I have no knowledge about the eventual use of the diamond. It is a puzzle which I think we would all like to solve.
Earlier this year, one poster posed the question: whether the South African gift was used in the changes QEQM made to the Greville tiara. That is possible and does not discount the use of the diamond in a ring prior to when the tiara was reset - if indeed the two diamonds are the same. (I have no idea!)
I am hoping that you have some information which might solve questions which, I suspect, many posters will have.
