Re: Queen Letizia wearing Queen Sofia's earrings Archived Message

Indeed, Queen Sofia only started wearing tiaras sometime after the begining of the reign, and still only her small personal property tiaras: the one made with one or two rows of the Niarchos rubis, the prussian and the floral.
The big Cartier tiara from Queen Ena was worn for the first time during the state visit from Portugal in 1987 (if my memory doesn't fail me the year).

As I said I do not expect Queen Letizia to wear any of the big ones, certainly not the Ansorena Fleur de Lys, that should be kept for a grand royal visit. And, as I wrote before, I dont think it will be confortable for her to wear, since this tiara is very big and the queen's head is rather small. She will have to wear it in the closed version, like Queen Ena did in the early years of her marriage. It will look somehow like a whooper tiara I'm guessing...

And I certainly hope they do not turn these events in black tie events...

: The 2006 visit was not a state visit, hence
: the different dress code. All state banquets
: in the previous reign were white-tie (though
: Queen Sophia only started wearing tiaras
: several years into the reign).
    :
: I too am curious to see whether they will
: change the dress code. Spain has
: traditionally had many incoming state visits
: compared to the other monarchies (though
: sadly not in recent years), with plenty of
: opportunities to see glittering tiaras. If
: they change the dress-code, it will all be
    : less interesting for us.

: I will consider myself happy if Queen
    : Letizia
: wears a tiara (whatever tiara it is)!
: Letizia does not seem to be a jewel lover,
: and with all the current mood about a
    : modern, low-profile and cost-saving
: monarchy, I wonder if the Royal Household
: would not be tempted to drop the
: "white-tie and tiara" pageantry of
: the former reign in favour of "black
: tie, no tiara" dresscode. Of course,
: that would be a nightmare for us! So, any
: tiara will be good news!
    :
: The gala dinner of the previous State Visit
: of Chilean President Michelle Bachelet to
: Spain, in 2006 (Mrs Bachelet has already
: served a first term as President of Chile
    : from 2006 to 2010), was remarkably low-key
: and disappointing, in terms of glitter:

: If the "white tie and tiara"
: dresscode is maintained for tomorrow's State
: dinner, I would really like Letizia to wear
: the " Joyas de Pasar ", designated
: by Queen Victoria-Eugenia as royal heirlooms
: for the future Spanish Queens: Ansorena
    : Fleur-de-Lys Tiara, large diamond
: riviere(s), large diamond cluster earrings
: and diamond bracelets. Queen Sofia wore
: these jewels (and it was certainly not a
: mere coincidence) for her last State dinner
: as Queen Consort in June 2014 (State Visit
: of the Mexican President), so it would be
: nice now for Queen Letizia to wear these
: jewels for her first State Visit as Queen
: Consort - it would be a nice symbol of
: transmission between the two Queens.
    :
    :
    :
: Of course, I hope Letizia will make this
: choice, but I do not really expect that to
: happen. Letizia seems to prefer smaller
: jewels, and the large Ansorena tiara might
: not be to her taste. But who knows?
    :
: If she opts for a smaller tiara, the
: Mellerio pearl and diamond shell tiara would
: be nice. Or one of the never-seen tiaras,
: supposed to have been presented to her...
