I share your perplexity about this demi-parure. It has not the timeless elegance of 19th century parures. But for a modern parure, it is far from being the worst jewel ever seen. Not my favorite jewel, not my most unpopular jewel either. I think it is the perfect type of jewels for semi-official evening events (i.e. less formal than a State dinner or a Parliament opening, but more formal than a mere cocktail reception). I have no information about the origin of this jewel. I guess it is an official gift presented to the Princess Royal at some time, but it is just speculation from me. Princess Anne wore this demi-parure on 29 April 2011, for the reception at Buckingham Palace following the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge: Caption: Princess Anne, Princess Royal and her husband Timothy Laurence leave Clarence House for Buckingham Palace on April 29, 2011 in London, England. The marriage of the second in line to the British throne was led by the Archbishop of Canterbury and was attended by 1900 guests, including foreign Royal family members and heads of state. Thousands of well-wishers from around the world have also flocked to London to witness the spectacle and pageantry of the Royal Wedding. (April 28, 2011 - Source: Dan Kitwood/Getty Images Europe)
