As far as I know there has never been any intention or project to display the Italian Crown Jewels, which are in the vaults of the Banca d'Italia. I remember reading in the seventies and eighties in some declarations of members of the Italian RF, such as HRH Princess Maria Gabriella or HRH Prince Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta,asking why the Italian authorities did not exhibit in a museum the Crown Jewels and the priceless coins collection gathered in many years with passion and experience by HM King Vittorio Emanuele III. This collection, the "Corpus Nummorum Italicorum", was stolen by Hitler's army during WWII, and only eventually recovered and brought back to the Quirinale Palace before the end of the Monarchy in June 1946. Despite some coins that were stolen during that adventure, it is still a priceless. I do not think that the reason for not showing the jewels is the difficulty to establish the rightful owner of them. IMO this is the least preoccupation of the Italian government.
