Apparently we do not produce yellow diamonds in Australia. Ours move through the pink hues to Cognac. There are also some Blues.
--Previous Message-- : : The maker of the brooch Joseph Man, a : "new Australian", a label we are : used to in Australia, had previously had his : own business in Paris for 20 years. : I expect then that he knew a thing or two : about where to go for diamonds. : : I wonder if some kind person here can find : out something of his business in Paris. : : : --Previous Message-- : Thank you Nellie, : : It would seem likely that the diamonds were : not originally found in Australia, although : it is difficult to be sure as Australia did : not have a diamond cutting industry at the : time, and so any cut diamonds would have had : to have been sourced overseas. : : The cities you mentioned suggest the : diamonds could have been from any where : diamonds were found, and either they were : sourced from diamond cutters (in Holland), : or from diamond merchants in cities where : major gem merchants operated. : : I also suspect that most of the more golden, : brown tinged diamonds (as opposed to the : yellow diamonds), would not have been : particularly valuable or easily obtainable : at the time, as diamonds with those hues : were not sought after then, and probably : were not even cut for gemstone use at the : time. On the other hand, the white diamonds : appear colourless and would have been : particularly valuable. : : :
