Partly solving the puzzle? Archived Message

There are so many items in the Australian press in 1954 saying that Joseph Mann made the brooch that I cannot ignore them, particularly when there are precise details such as when he arrived in Australia in 1948, the number of languages he spoke etc. In one report, Mann said that his trademark was stamped on the reverse of the brooch, so I looked carefully at the photo of the reverse in Roberts. Roberts notes only the following two marks 1.Name of Drummonds of Melbourne 2. Stamped as all platinum. But there is a third mark and I think it reads Mann. Having said that, I am not sure I have found the stork head which is said to be Mann's mark, but it maybe just before his name. Roberts says one more interesting thing - that the brooch was commissioned from the jewellery designer Paul Charles Schneller who came to Australia in 1950. That date corresponds with the Paul Schneller I found in the Australian immigration files. Whether that Schneller left Australia permanently in 1960 is something I have not resolved yet. My thoughts at present are 1. Schneller was the designer or major designer. 2 Mann did the actual construction (or the majority of it)
