M Vine in The Europeans has identified Laszlo Puzar, another Hungarian born jeweller who came to Australia in 1950, as the maker of the Opal set given to QEII in 1954 by the government of South Australia. The opal in the necklace (which is set in palladium) is 203 carats.
Puzar moved to Melbourne in early 1954 and, after working for other manufacturing jewellers, he purchased Joseph Mann's business about April 1958.
