Princess Margaret and the sapphire tiara Archived Message

Is the sapphire brooch worn by Princess Margaret in the photo below one and the same with the centrepiece of Queen Mary's sapphire tiara purported to have originated with Marie Feodorovna? Turned 90 degrees, of course.

If so, and the central sapphire can be detached, it is certainly possible that the tiara could have accommodated the Durbar Emerald brooch rather than placed in front of the central element.

Should that be the case, that raises other issues. If it can accommodate both elements, is it likely this piece was commissioned by Queen Mary rather than purchased from the Empress -- and there is a yet-unseen sapphire tiara still in the vaults? Did the central element start life as one of the duplicate "Albert" brooches?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find a related thread in the archive here.
