Among the interesting details of this press statement:
- the brooch was purchased by the Louvre directly, through their budget for acquisitions (20% of the price of the entrance tickets are devoted to new acquisitions) and not by the Association des Amis du Louvre (this Association had bought the tiara of the pearl parure at the Thurn-und-Taxis auction in 1992 and had given it to the Louvre)
- they confirm that the brooch in the Louvre is the brooch number 2, bought by Bapst in 1887
- they also mention that Princess Clémentine of Orléans (Duchess of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha and mother of Tsar Ferdinand I of the Bulgarians) was photographed with this brooch in 1889 - which implies that Ferdinand received it, at some time, from his mother, and did not buy it himself from Bapst.
I have found only one picture of Princess Clémentine dated 1889: the brooch is possibly visible on her corsage, but the picture is unfortunately quite blurry:
