Thank you for the great photos Maridje. I believe that Field is wrong on this occasion. To add to what I said above about dates, I would also like to say again that we have no other evidence of Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra sharing jewels, and I cannot conceive that a mother-in-law would "borrow" a jewel she had given to her son's wife as a wedding present, particularly as we know there were tensions around 1911-12 between the two queens over who should keep some of the jewels left to the crown by Queen Victoria. To accept Field's version would also mean that the jewel was set with diamonds as worn by Queen Mary in 1901, reset in a plain border for a wearing by Queen Alexandra in 1913 and then subsequently reset by the time Queen Mary gave it to the Duchess of Gloucester as a wedding present. I cannot see Queen Mary agreeing to have one of her jewels reset in this manner. To my way of thinking, Field is incorrect, and two similar jewels existed.
