It is tricky, isn't it. I believe the Archbishop, when he could not see the red thread, turned the crown about a few times before raising and lowering it onto the King's head. When the band was shortened in 1911 it was made oval shape. So the two side crosses give no clue. They seem to be set quite parallel to each other.
