Thanks Arthur for posting the photo of the miniature. The turquoise drops are described in The Scotsman of July 21, 1896 as "It [the gift}comprised a number of graduated diamonds and torquoises (sic) in a case not attached to each oterh, but so constructed that they can be readily emplyed in many forms of ornamentation. The length of the complete set suggests a necklace."
They certainly could be used as drops on a turquoise necklace.
