From "The Ohio Democrat" (Logan, OH; dated May 14, 1887):

"Queen Victoria's presents to her royal bridesmaids when she was married was a brooch in the shape of a bird, the body being formed entirely of turquoises, the eyes of rubies, while the beak was a diamond and the claws of pure gold, resting on pearls of great size and value. A very good collection to pull apart and have set sensibly."

From "Arizona Republican" (Phoenix, AZ; dated March 13, 1898):

"Senor Sarasate has given to his native town, Pampeluna, all the jewels presented to him by royal and distinguished persons in the course of his career. The articles, which will be placed in a museum, include a set of pearls given by Queen Victoria, three rings by Wilhelm I, a watch in blue enamel by Napoleon III, a diamond ring by Dom Pedro, a portrait etched on gold by Empress Augusta, a set of diamonds by Alphonso XII, and all sorts of scarf-pins and silver cigarette cases."
