I have the following question regarding two photos posted by malluu, and copied below. Taking a close look at the bangle that QM is wearing on her right arm, I noticed it comprised of what appears to be two pear shaped emeralds.
"1927"
"December 1911 - Delhi Durbar" (shows the stone cut aspect better when zoomed in)
Regarding the cut of these emerald stones, the latter photo (when you Zoom in) appears to show either a cabochon cut or a table/rose cut (I'm sorry, I'm not sure of the correct terminology for this cut) given the shadow cast by the stone...
I had only ever known of the emerald bracelet worn on QM's left hand (that was made to match the similar necklace). Does anyone know of the providence of the right hand bangle, what ever may of happened to it, and finally, if broken up, what might have happened to the two quite large pear shaped emeralds?
IF the two stones are table/rose cut, then I wonder whether these two stones 'might be' those contained in the following earrings (further discussion on, and photo from, the following link):
The above article does not offer the origin of the emerald stones, however it is interesting to consider that 1. The earrings frames are purported to be from a QM brooch, so we would have never seen the earrings prior to QM (nor worn by QM as earrings, if she did not favor long earrings) 2. If the earrings were not created (or retro fitted into earrings) until AFTER QM's time, could this also have been around the same time the emerald bangle above potentially disappeared from photographic records.
The above theory on the emerald stones in the earrings is solely my supposition (and may quickly be dis-proven if the emerald bangle can be traced following QM's ownership). Either way, this post raises two valid questions at any rate; what happened to the bangle, and where might the emerald drops have come from?
I hope this challenges fellow posters to start digging and we have an interesting thread to start pulling.
