Very interesting detail, Altezania, thank you! I had until then never noticed the addition of an extra scroll on each side of the tiara.

Another detail I had not noticed is that the scrolls alternate two different designs: a laurel motif, and another more compact motif:

Indeed, while the original tiara had only three pearl-centered scrolls on each side of the central diamond element (+ the diamond final element), there are now clearly four (+ the diamond final element):

The question is then: when did the addition of an extra scroll occur?

We know that, for some time (from the 1920s to the 1950s), Queen Victoria-Eugenia changed the pearls for emeralds. But on all pictures I have seen of her wearing the Cartier tiara with emeralds, she is never seen sideways enough, so we can not check if there are three or four scroll motifs:

The picture posted by Altezania of Infanta Maria-Cristina wearing the Cartier tiara is from the pre-wedding reception of Infanta Pilar in 1967. At that time, the emeralds had been removed and the pearls had been set back in the tiara, which by then clearly includes four scroll elements on each side:

More pictures of this beautiful tiara:

Am I right that the last public appearance of the Cartier tiara was in 2010, worn by Infanta Cristina for Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Daniel Wastling's wedding? A shame that this beautiful tiara has not been seen for six years now!
