I agree that Queen Sonja's dress is really beautiful and elegant, and I admit the "Star Trek" parure's golden colour match quite positively with the ivory colour of the dress.

On his blog "Kongebloggen", Norwegian royal expert Kjell Arne Totlandt noticed that this dress, made by Erik Mortensen, is actually an old one (as often with Queen Sonja! ). For instance, the Queen had worn this very same dress for a dinner at Stiftsgården in Trondheim, prior to the Coronation, on June 22nd, 1991:

The embroideries on Crown Princess Mette-Marit's dress (with zodiacal motifs?) could be interesting in themselves. But the dress shape does just look loose and uninspired, it is definitely not flattering for the Princess. Quite the same for Princess Astrid's loose turquoise-blue dress...

To get back to jewelry discussion, I am not a great fan of the Norwegian amethyst tiara too. Reason for that is that this tiara looks too much like... like what it is actually: a necklace turned upside down! It would look much better as a necklace, IMHO.

I regret that Crown Princess Mette-Marit does not wear more often the delicate, but beautiful "Vifte" diamond necklace. It is lovely, and would make a good match with the Crown Princess' small "daisy" tiara:
