The Black Raven (1943)- Another George Zucco starring role. Another good old stormy murder mystery. Not a big budget but the cast is good and the movie is fun. An early role for Gunsmoke's Glenn Strange. A lot of shadows in the dark Black Raven Inn!
The Black Doll (1938) - Not bad but not as good as I thought it would be when I was reading up on it. Not as atmospheric as the two above.
Gog (1954) Strictly Sci-fi. Sorta a pre-2001 A Space Odyssey. I enjoyed it. Another Richard Egan flick. Worth a watch.
Wolfen (1981) So I finally decided to watch "Wolfen", wanting to break into the 80's. I had never seen this film before. It came out around the same time frame as "An American Werewolf In London" and "The Howling", 1981. I just never was as interested in Wolfen. After watching it, I was not wrong. I thought it was pretty lackluster and boring. More of a mystery with little action. Police stakeouts! No re-watch anytime soon!
My last choice was the Alfred Hitchcock silent film from (1927), THE LODGER. It takes a bit of working up to watching a silent film. Some I do like, but I can't always build up the hype. I have seen most every Hitchcock film, so this was inevitable. 1 hour and 30 minutes. Actually, it went by faster than I thought. I did enjoy it...a lot of things about the art of the silent film. The newer (Criterion) orchestral score was very nice, really kept the film moving. The tinting was interesting. The lead actress was beautiful, and I thought she was the highlight of the film. The lead actor was a good match as well. Really good cast for a silent film. While I understand they do have to project and overact to an extent, I thought this cast done it very well. I only wish for silent films, that I could read lips!!!!, LOL! I always want more cue cards and dialogue! Maybe they should hire an expert at reading lips and put in some subtitles, lol!
HALLOWEEN viewing, 2023 comes to a close.
Back to my Mayberry RFD set.
