A while back we were walking our 20 lb dog on a leash when one of two dogs charged me. The only weapon I had was my foot. I blew out my knee and suffered for months healing.
I started packing! I don’t feel comfortable carrying with one in the chamber, especially when I have a leash in one hand while my dog going ballistic. It’s a very clumsy proposition. The dogs usually have the element of surprise. They can and have come from behind you. Especially in the dark .
I’ve lost count over the years of the times that I’ve had to reverse course ……..far too many times when I have retreated looking over my shoulder.
When conditions are favorable we walk 1 to 3 miles a day.
Bear spray can work against you unless the timing works in your favor. Most of the attacks result in my picking up our dog and turning my back or yelling while my dog is trying to write a check she can’t cash.
As far as I know, no attempt has been made to live trap loose dogs
The dogs run loose at night as well as day. They like to visit the front of the city building and around the AC store. ……..lots of evidence of that! Live trapping them would be a start.
Last summer I witnessed (from a distance) a small group of kids including a toddler or two sitting together in a group circle. Two large dogs left the road and went right through the circle of kids.
Checking for food? They eventually moved on but there’s something definitely wrong with that picture!
Right now its “Every man for himself and Lord help the women and children!” This has been going on far too long!
