For what it's worth, the 'disease' you worry about is a common phenomenon in other languages too, and not just a modern one. In fact, it's been around in English for centuries. Not all 'agreement' in sentences has to be grammatical; a smenatic one is equally valid. That's why in German, for example, no one refers to a girl (Mädchen, neuter noun) using anything but the grammatically 'incorrect' feminine pronoun.
