Re: Ralph Moore's opera reviews
Ralph Moore's reviews have been a wonderful way of getting an overview of many fine performances of great opera. They have led me on a number of searches to acquire sets that I may have considered but previously passed over. My latest such purchase was Maazel's 'Carmen'. I have to say that I found it immensely enjoyable, with one major exception. No, not Micaëla as per Ralph. It was the spoken dialogue which I found truly AWFUL. It sounded like it was delivered from a completely separate commentary booth with all of the finesse of a weather report. I have yet to find a 'Carmen' where all of the components come together to satisfy me completely.
