Re: Bruckner Symphony 2 Rémy Ballot
Contrary to the claim that Leopold Nowak's 1965 edition is of the 1877 version, he merely produced a reprint of Haas's mixed-version edition, with few corrections of his own. Nowak 1965 may be a little closer to Bruckner 1877 than Haas 1938 was, but it is not there yet, by no stretch of the imagination. The complicated history of the various versions, and editions, of Bruckner's Second Symphony can be accessed in a variety of places, not least on William Carragan's own website. I would also recommend a 2009 article written by Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs that outlines the problems well – and proffers a critical view of Carragan's edition of the 1872 version. The article can be found on the internet.
