Granted the orchestral ensemble (especially in the first movement) is somewhat shaky although, as the Penguin Guide pointed out, the intensity remains unaffected.
But poor sound? By what standard? Not by 1938 standards, surely? Pristine's David Rose has hailed it as an early example of full frequency sound, which I think is a fair evaluation.
