Addendum: I should say explicitly that my feelings about the two versions apply to omissions as well as additions/modifications. I feel that the Tristanesque Paris ballet music in Act 1 harmonizes with the Tristanesque streamlining of the song tournament in Act 2, whereas the Dresden ballet music harmonizes with the more discursive or expansive Dresden song tournament--both still seem to have one foot in Weber's world.
