My thanks to Nick Barnard for clearing this matter up - obviously at the time of writing I did not have access to the original 1994 booklet, and the rather important comments by Meirion Bowen were omitted from the reprinted booklet for the reissue. Mind you, I would still contend that the additional wind and brass parts may have been added for some individual school performances, but are hardly a real attempt to provide a version for a larger orchestra since some passages for solo strings are left entirely to violin or viola rather than re-assigned to wind instruments in the manner that one might have expected. So far as I am aware these 'ad lib' adaptations still remain unpublished. But I did display a rather cavalier attitute to arithmetic when I suggested that record companies should be contemplating a more extensive 'Holst edition' for his 150th anniversary in 2014. That should of course have read 2024; so there is still a couple of years to go.
