The sound is all over the place: nearly inaudible in sections of the first movement: the performance is quirky but interesting, unlike, for example, Sir Simon's recording where he thinks that spotlighting a few sections is so very clever of him.
I like Kulman's Urlicht very much. One of the best in my opinion, and that's always an important signpost for any successful 2nd. I don't have such a problem with the sound, but it could be bettered, and I hope sincerely it will by the time Pentatone records the 8th. But like Mr Phipps, I am impressed by this recording.
