Can anyone help with something that is puzzling me?
Did Igor Markevitch record Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini once or twice, for Philips?
I have two Philips Duos of Tchaikovsky. (Actually, I've got three - I also have the Suites, from Dorati, but that's irrelevant.) One is Symphonies 1-3 and FdR, all from Markevitch, where the recording date for the tone poem is given in the booklet as 10/1974; I also have the 'Complete Tone Poems' Duo (Markevitch, Haitink, Inbal), where the date given (as far as I can make out) is 6/1967. The orchestra remains the same - New Philharmonia.
Are they two separate recordings, in which case, great, because the one on my symphonies duo has an irritating click at the 20 minute mark? Or is there a misprint in one of the booklets as to the dates?
I haven't played the Tone Poems Duo yet, so can't confirm if there's a click at 20 minutes!
By the way, the timings given are identical - 23' 05''.
My guess is they are one and the same - in which case, when was it recorded?
Thanks, in advance!
