Listening to the excellent new restoration posted today on the YouTube 'Private Reserve' channel, I was surprised how straightforward and unmannered Weingarten's performance was. At over two minutes faster than Toscanini's 1952 Philharmonia performance on the same channel, I wonder if this is how Weingartner heard Brahms and Steinbach conduct this work?
