Interestingly, if you go to Hyperion's homepage today, the tagline is now 'Britain's Brightest Record Label', (a description I have no problem with) but with no mention of independence.
A child at school is operating autonomously, until
it's time for their mum or dad to pick them up...

I believe all we know, Barry, is that although Hyperion Records is no longer fully independent in that it was acquired by Universal Music Group in 2023, it continues operate autonomously as a stand-alone label within UMG’s classical music division, with Simon Perry still MD, maintaining its own team and ethos. Does anyone know why Hyperion still describe themselves as 'independent', when clearly they are not?
